The author, Dr. Mojgan Rahbanoff, is the youngest daughter of the main character in Escape to Tehran. The book is based on her father's accounts of his childhood in the Soviet Union, and the family's inhumane treatment by the Fanatic Islamic Revolutionary Guard following the Iranian Revolution of 1979. Despite these horrific and unjust historical events, Dr. Rahbanhoff completed her education and obtained a Doctorate in Art History from the University of Paris (Sorbonne), as well as a Masters Degree in Design from Paris Modeliste, one of Europe's top design schools.
